Rosalyn Old's Future Foods Innovation Game Debuts at Berlin Science Week
News from Nov 03, 2025
Future Foods Innovation Game launched at the Berlin Science Week 2025!
Which kinds of proteins would we eat in our future diets if you could design them to be more sustainable, healthy and inclusive? And how would you like them to be developed? Gamers explored those questions at Berlin Science Week’s campus event, near the large dinosaur skeleton, in the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin in early November 2025.
Participants took on a role, navigated challenges and took actions to responsibly develop a future food in this exciting new board game, designed by Rosalyn Old. The aim of the game is to bring the topic of responsible innovation in the context of future foods to life.
Crops failing, carbon emissions, deforestation – we’re constantly facing distressing headlines about the state of our planet, and we know that food plays a role in it. The future of food systems and proteins affects us all – whether vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian or omnivore.
Playing the Future Food Game together with others, characters design a new type of protein product. It could be cultured meat, it could be from insects or algae, or something completely different! Navigate the board, collect coins and decide how to spend them on different actions to develop your new innovation. Throughout the game, you’ll try to maximise four dimensions in order to ensure that your protein is developed in the most responsible way possible, whilst navigating any challenges which may come your way.
Thanks to all gamers for playing the Future Food Game! The game is now being used with student groups whio are exploring the topic
